Garfield County School District Expands the Classroom through Technology
The leadership and staff of Garfield County have determined that the next steps in improving education involve sending the devices that we currently use in our classrooms home with our students so that they can gain even more experience with technology based learning. In our industry this is sometimes called 1:1; meaning that each student has their own device. We are excited to introduce this new opportunity to our students and improve learning in Garfield County.
This program will be rolled out to all students in grades 4 -12 at all schools in the district. This means that all students in grades 4-12 will have the option of receiving a Chromebook laptop computer for their education needs. While the students are not obligated to take the computers, parents should be aware that future programming, textbooks and testing will begin to be available in a digital format and having a Chromebook will help them have access to these tools not just at school but also anywhere they take their devices.
The past couple of years, teachers have utilized the Chromebooks in their classrooms and have been preparing your student for digital success. We will be providing additional professional development for our teachers to help them strategically expand learning beyond the classroom through this technology.
All computers will continue to be the property of the district and will be provided to those students wishing to participate provided replacement insurance is procured. Those parents wishing to bypass the mandatory insurance are free to purchase their own similar products and be fully compatible with the new district plan.
Please watch for additional information throughout the summer.
