Participation in Sex-Designated Athletic Activities and Teams
- “Sex” means the biological, physical condition of being male or female, determined by an individual’s genetics and anatomy at birth.
- “Interscholastic athletic activity” means that a student represents the student’s school or the District in competition against another school or a local educational authority in an athletic or sporting activity.
- “Co-ed” or “mixed” means that a team is composed of members of both sexes who traditionally compete together.
Designation of School Athletic Activities and Teams—
Each school in the District shall designate each of its school athletic activities and teams as designated for students of the male sex, designated for students of the female sex, or coed or mixed. In making the designation for activities and teams which are interscholastic activities governed by the Utah High School Activities Association (“UHSAA”), the school shall consider the listing of girls teams, boys teams, and mixed teams established by the Association.
Participation in Sex-Designated Athletic Activities and Teams—
A student of the male sex may not compete with a team or in an athletic activity designated for students of the female sex in an interscholastic athletic activity. For all other sex-designated school athletic activities and teams, students may participate or compete according to the student’s gender identity as defined under Policy FAB. (For interscholastic athletic activities governed by UHSAA and designated for students of the male sex or as mixed teams, transgender students’ participation shall be governed by the policies established by UHSAA.)
