Master Board Award 2015

During the Utah School Board Association (USBA) Conference last week, all five members of the Garfield County School Board were recognized for completing the requirements of the Master Board Award (MBA) program. Board President Ken Platt and Board Vice President Cheryl Cox received their level III, Myron Cottam, Melaney Draper and Mike Savage all received their level II MBA recognition. The MBA program was developed by the Utah School Boards Association USBA to provide local school board members with professional development training in school finance, legislation, ethics, policy, and board meeting procedures. Only five districts in the State of Utah had all of their Board members complete the program. In order for a Board member to complete the MBA program they must dedicate time to individual study, group seminars, state conferences, community meetings, involvement in legislative issues, and ensure proactive procedures and policies in their districts. Each School Board member also received a personal letter from Governor Herbert which said, “Congratulations for your achievements and commitment to the children of Utah. On behalf of all residents of Utah, I extend our appreciation for your dedicated and selfless service to the children in your schools.” I would like to congratulate Ken Platt, Cheryl Cox, Melaney Draper, Myron Cottam, and Mike Savage on this prestigious recognition.
