Decreased School Fees

Decreased Fees for GCSD Students

Parents, when you enroll your high school students for the 2014-2015 school year, you will notice substantial decreases in fees collected by the schools.  This is due to changes the Garfield School Board made to fee schedules adopted in the June Board meeting.   The fee schedules will be the same in all three high schools with substantial decreases in several areas.  The “sports participation” or more commonly known as the “play to play” was reduced from $50 per sport with no maximum to $25 per sport with a $75 per student maximum.  The “cheerleading participation” fee was also decreased from $50 to $25.  The School Board also removed the $25 “ednet fee” charged to enroll students in concurrent enrollment college classes.  Students may still be required to pay some costs to universities, but there will be no charges collected by the Garfield School District.  I would like to thank the Board for reducing the fee schedules to allow more students to participate in extracurricular activities and allow more students to enroll in concurrent enrollment classes.  The approved fee schedules for the 2014-2015 school year will be as follows:

Student Body (Activity Card)                                $30.00

Textbook Deposit                                                  $25.00

Foreign Exchange Student Fee                             $3200.00

Please also be aware, students may be eligible for fee waivers.  If you are interested in inquiring about fee waivers, please visit with your local high school principal to see if your student qualifies.   Elementary schools do not collect or assess any fees.  In the future, I would like to continue to reduce the high school fees until the District collects no fees.
