It Takes a Village

“It takes a village…”

At the conclusion of another successful school year, I would like to thank all of those who have helped the students in the Garfield School District achieve academic success.   It takes all of us to provide a quality education to our students.  It starts with parents who make sure their students are ready for the school day.  Bus drivers pick up students in the early hours of the morning.  Custodians assure a warm building and clean environment for our students. Secretaries greet our students, answer phone calls, and collect lunch money. Food service workers prepare breakfast and lunch to satisfy the student’s most basic needs. Teachers arrive early and stay late to assure they are ready to provide academic instruction. Para- educators work with students under the teacher’s direction to provide individualized intervention and instruction. Principals oversee and resolve issues on a daily basis to assure students are safe and protected in our schools. Coaches work with student athletes after school to help them achieve their greatest potential. District office staff provides the technology, student information support, implements the Utah State Office of Education directives, and oversees payroll for the employees.  The School Board approves the financial purchases and policies governing our District.  Parents, grandparents, and volunteers work with our students to complete homework assignments and provide support to our students.  I believe the African proverb is correct that states, “It takes a village to raise a child.”  Garfield School District is a wonderful place to work because of the students we teach, the communities in which we live, and our association with the wonderful people in our communities.
