Capital Projects Update

Each year Garfield County School District budgets approximately $600,000 for maintenance of the school facilities with the majority of the work completed in the beginning of the fiscal year.  In an effort to be transparent with the public, I would like to provide you with the locations and costs for the capital projects that have been completed, or are in the process of being completed for this school year.  Please know that the district has selected each vendor or product after a competitive bidding process. The capital projects are as follows:

All gym floors in the district were resurfaced.  The cost for materials was $13,060.

Sound system upgrades have been installed in the high school auditoriums and gyms in Bryce Valley, Escalante, and Panguitch with a combined cost of $58,345.

Panguitch Elementary, Bryce Valley Elementary and Escalante Elementary land surveying is $14,530.

Panguitch Elementary School upgraded the fire alarm for $43,030.

Escalante High School installed a new bell system and intercom for $4,500.  EHS experienced substantial water damage in the classrooms and hallways.  The roof replacement is estimated to be $173,823.

Panguitch High School is also experiencing roofing problems with leaks in the classrooms, hallways and gym.  The roof replacement is estimated to be $243,860.

Please know that GCSD conducts closed bids for “requests for proposals” (RFP) for all projects over $50,000 and requires three bids on all projects under $50,000.  GCSD will continue to stretch each dollar and be accountable to the tax payers for the expenditures encumbered to maintain old buildings to ensure a safe, healthy learning environment for the students.  If you have any questions or if I can be of any assistance, please email or call me anytime.
