Field Trips and Volunteer Background Checks

As the end of the school year quickly approaches, schools are making arrangements for field trips.  When the field trips are planned, parents will receive an “Identified Risk of Participation” form from the school explaining the possible risks or concerns for each field trip.  Students who plan to attend the field trip must provide the school with the required signatures of the student and legal guardian before they are allowed to travel to the event.  If the district does not received a signed Identified Risk of Participation form, the student cannot participate in the field trip.  If you have questions regarding the Identified Risk of Participation form or the itinerary, please contact the classroom teacher who is organizing the activity.  If the parents or guardians would like to travel with the class as an advisor, you must visit with the building principal to receive a “Volunteer Information Form.”  After the building principal signs the volunteer form, you will need to schedule an appointment at the district office for a background check.  Please bring you driver’s license when you come to the office.  There is no cost to the volunteer for the background check.  If you have already completed your background check with Garfield County School District, it is good for five years.  Please know, the reason for the background check is to assure the safety of our students.  If you have questions or need assistance with the background check process, please contact me in the district office.
