GARFIELD COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT NEWS
The School District is pleased to announce that they will be participating in an opportunity for students in rural Utah who need special instruction not available at their schools to have access to interactive video-conferencing capabilities, thanks to a federal grant.
The nearly $150,000 grant plus matching funds from districts and the state will be used to provide instructional and behavioral support through real-time conferencing with specialists at regional, state or district locations.
The Southwest Educational Development Centers applied for and received the grant in connection with the Utah Education Network.

Escalante High School received a six year accreditation from the Utah State Office of Education. This is an outstanding accomplishment for the students, faculty and staff of EHS. Escalante High will experience changes in the administration this year. Mrs. Betty Ann Rember declared her retirement effective August 16, 2011; with this announcement, the following changes will be in place for EHS for the upcoming school year. Ms. Susan Shurtz will assist with day-to-day counseling duties in conjunction with Mr. Gary Bennett. Mr. Greg Allen will be the Athletic Director and Region 20 representative on the Region Board. He will be responsible for extra-curricular activities. Mr. Eugene King will be responsible for student discipline and daily administrative duties. Mrs. Derlynne Brooks will continue to manage the office and submit all required school reports. Mr. Layne LeFevre will be the District representative on all IEP plans for Special Education students. I would personally like to thank the faculty and staff of Escalante High School for their willingness to accept additional responsibilities to keep the school functioning effectively.
Mrs. Marilyn Bulkley from the Bryce Canyon Natural History Association has received funding from the Beverly Taylor Sorenson Foundation to benefit the students in Garfield County School District. The funding is valued at $15,000. The focus will be on 4th and 8th grade students. It will include three days of class instruction and one day at Bryce Canyon National Park. It will involve students from Panguitch Elementary, Escalante Elementary and Bryce Valley Elementary. The curriculum will include science and art.
